A short stage along the Gimmlitztal with 18.4 km and 300 meters of altitude. The checkpoint is on the left at the entrance to the village, directly at the entrance to the parking lot opposite the Naturhotel Gasthof Bärenfels.
As the name suggests, forestry dominated in Holzhau. The wood felled in thesurrounding area was either processed into charcoal for the ironworks or raftedas fi rewood towards Freiberg on the river Mulde. Today, Holzhau is particularlyknown to ski enthusiasts. The Holzhau ski area on the Northern slope ofthe Freiberger Mulde is one of the largest in the Eastern Ore Mountains. TheStoneman Miriquidi Road also follows the Freiberger Mulde – yet upstream andSoutheast. Directly at the border, the route leads into the deep Miriquidi forest,along the ridge of the Ore Mountains and passes another winter sports area, theHemmschuh. Passing the sawmill museum Herklotzmühe, you will head towardsthe next checkpoint: the health resort Bärenfels.
