Two reservoirs for relaxation, sport and fun. The Galgenteiche ponds consist of the large and the small pond.
The gallows ponds are among the oldest artificial ponds or water reservoirs in Germany.  They have arisen due to the mining activity, as mining uses water primarily for mineral processing . The large pond is 5.53 m deep and has a storage volume of 670,000 m³. The small pond is 3 m deep and has a storage volume of 30,000 m³.

The Galgenteiche ponds have meanwhile developed into the No. 1 local recreation area. The small pond serves as a bathing lake with slides, a playground and tennis court as well as catering area. At the small pond there is also a campsite, ideal for perfect relaxation.

The large pond is a drinking water reservoir.  The Gallows ponds probably got their names from the location of a gallows near the ponds.
