The 14 meter high Oberbärenburg lookout tower is easily accessible. The construction, which consists mainly of spruce wood, galvanized steel and stainless steel, offers guests an excellent view, far beyond the foothills of the Eastern Ore Mountains, at almost 750 meters above sea level.
By great visibility, the view extends from Geisingberg, over Saxony Switzerland and Dresden to the Tharandt Forest and leaves a lasting impression of the beauty of the surroundings. 56 steps lead to the 10.50 meter high viewing platform of the tower, built in 2004. Three panorama boards await the visitor here, enhancing the wonderful view with additional information on the direction and distance of prominent points.
Since 2008, the tower, which is accessible all year round without admission, has also been equipped with a coin-operated telescope in the summer months. The Oberbärenburg observation tower has developed into a popular excursion destination.
At the foot of the tower, on the concert square newly built in 2001, events, performances and festivals take place every year in a pleasant atmosphere and beautiful surroundings. The architecture of the square with open-air chess, which is incorporated into the gently rising slope, has its own charms and invites holidaymakers, hikers and walkers in particular to linger.
The observation tower is always accessible, free of charge.
