In the eastern Ore Mountains, south of Dresden and only a few kilometers from the Czech border, lies the old mining town of Geising in a wide green valley. In 2019 Geising received the title "State Recognized Recreational Resort". The heritage-listed town center and many beautiful town houses in a traditional half-timbered style are witnesses of the history of the city. Due to the idyllic landscape, the good transport connections and the proximity to the interesting excursion possibilities, Geising is one of a much-visited holiday and recreation areas.
Geising is always worth a trip, whether as a day tourist, for a short break or for a main holiday. There is a lot to experience and explore, such as a tour through the listed town center with over 70 individual historical buildings and monuments, which reflect the more than 550 years of the mining history, or a visit to the wildlife zoo park and then swimming in the Hüttenteich natural pool. Those who like it sporty can hike to the Kohlhaukuppe, where is an observation tower, or try the circular hiking trail ("Herzelweg") or walk the long distance trail Erzgebirgs-Kammweg. This starts at the train station and leads over the Geisingberg to the Rennsteig, 289 km far away. Sport fans can try part of the Stoneman-Miriquidi bike circuit, which begins nearby, leads through the Eastern Ore Mountains. For cold season lovers, there are numerous slopes in the area and also many kilometers of cross-country ski trails. And what about skating or curling in the ice arena in Geising. You can also enjoy a lovely Christmas romance in the small towns of the East Ore Mountains. Not forget the popular carnival of Geising, going on in February.
