Bärenstein - a small idyllic town with long history. Bärenstein is over 800 years old and is located 40 km southerly from Dresden and there the station of the railway line Müglitztalbahn Heidenau - Altenberg. Easily accessible via the Müglitztalstraße S 178, the place is spared from through traffic due to its location in a side valley. Bärenstein is the starting point for hikes to the circuit thematic trail inspirated by mining and the surrounding holiday resorts.
The castle (unfortunately not accessible) was the center of settlement of large parts of the Eastern Ore Mountains and the development of mining. The market, lined with town houses, with the old town hall and brewery and the post-distance pillar built in 1734 are listed as historical monuments. The same goes for the church with the tombstones of the Knights of Bernstein as the founder of mining in the region. The model of a functioning stamp mill on the market testifies to this.A bronze history column built in 2006 complements the market ensemble. In the former town hall there is a small parlor, which enables a view into the extensive history of Bärenstein.
