Altenberg - state-approved climatic health resort

Altenberg has been a recognized climatic health resort since 2017. The well-developed network of terrain trails and water treading pools are successfully supporting the Kneipp therapy. The Raupennest health center offers many options for a health holiday and welcomes also a day visitors to the spacious pools and sauna area.

 

Altenberg has had a good name as the center of mining in Eastern Saxony since the 15th century. Tin ore was mined here until 1991, and the old winding towers and tunnels can still be admired today. A visitor attraction that is unique in all of Europe is the Altenberger Pinge. With its enormous dimensions of 400 m in diameter and 150 m deep, it is one of the most impressive mining monuments in the region.

 

There are also numerous tours for mountain bikers and e-bikers in the area.

 

The racing sled and bobsled run in Kohlgrund is known far beyond the borders of the Altenberg holiday region. On the SachsenEnergie-EISKANAL, one of the most demanding and fastest tracks in the world, 14 world championships have been held since 1991 - most recently the world championship in February 2020.

 

By the way, not only in winter you can sledding here. The longest summer toboggan run in Saxony, with a length of 1,000 m, you will find here. An adventure playground with bungee trampolines, a nautical jet, a deval kart track and the climbing labyrinth are among the most popular leisure facilities in the Eastern Ore Mountains.

 

Winter time is pure enjoyment in the Altenberg holiday region. The ski slopes in Altenberg, Geising, Rehefeld and Schellerhau invite you to descend. In Rehefeld you can try snow tubing, take the double chair lift up and going down with the sledge using the 1 km long natural toboggan run. In many districts and parts of the city you can also find various toboggan slopes.

 

Something very special and well known is the over 80 km long network of trails. The network of trails leads through snow-covered forests. You can have fun at the Ice skating arena in Geising. Enjoy yourself as you watch your children skate or take to the ice together.

 

Another international sports facility is the Biathlon Sparkassen-Arena Altenberg. The competition highlight here are the German championships, which take place every two years. A more leisurely tour can be undertaken with the Weißeritztalbahn. From the health resort of Kipsdorf, around the Malter dam and through the Rabenauer Grund to Freital.

 

You can experience unique nature in the nature reserve on the Geisingberg. A unique landscape was created in over 18 years of maintenance and development. The orchid meadows can be seen here in May and June via hiking trails.
