Districts of Altenberg

The Altenberg recreational area is known for its diversity - this is also represented by the many small and picturesque villages and districts, all of which are very unique. It is precisely this mix of hiking, cycling, sports and leisure activities, winter sports, wellness, a beneficial climate and hospitality that makes the Altenberg holiday region a popular year-round destination.
Altenberg - state-approved climatic health resort

The Altenberg holiday region is an experience for the whole family in summer and winter. In the midst of pure nature, take a break from your everyday life. Here you can recharge your batteries for body and soul in a wild, romantic landscape and a beneficial climate.

Bärenfels

Surrounded by forests and flowering mountain meadows, embedded by the Spitzberg (750m) and Hofehübel (740m), bordered by the mountain rivers Pöbelbach and Rote Weißeritz, the small spa town of Bärenfels with 340 inhabitants is idilically located.

Bärenstein

Bärenstein - a small idyllic town with long history. Bärenstein is over 800 years old and is located 40 km southerly from Dresden and there the station of the railway line  Müglitztalbahn Heidenau - Altenberg.

Fürstenau

As an oasis of calm for the guest looking for relaxation. Fürstenau has its rural charm, on the Erzgebirge ridge.

Fürstenwalde

Fürstenwalde - legendary mining town. The location of the place away from major traffic routes allows the visitor to enjoy peace and relaxation. Whether you hike or cycle through the beautiful surroundings, you will always find lonely paths, quiet spots and magnificent views.

Geising - State Recognized Recreational Resort

In the eastern Ore Mountains, south of Dresden and only a few kilometers from the Czech border, lies the old mining town of Geising in a wide green valley. In 2019 Geising received the title "State Recognized Recreational Resort".

Hirschprung

The Hirschsprung is located in a valley about 3 km from Altenberg. It was only at the end of the last century that our quiet, beautifully situated village became known as a winter sports and summer holiday resort.

Kipsdorf

The health resort of Kipsdorf is part of the region of Altenberg. The Weißritztalbahn, the longest-serving narrow-gauge railway in Germany, puffs daily from Freital-Hainsberg up into the Eastern Ore Mountains to Kipsdorf.

Lauenstein

Enchanting place with a castle and a Falconer's fountain. In addition to the art-historical experience opportunities, the visitors can be also attracted by an extensive hiking area with many hiking trails.

Liebenau

Liebenau laid out spaciously in an open, almost straight valley with gentle slopes and wide ground. Liebenau is one of the early village complexes in the Eastern Ore Mountains and was part of the Lauenstein domain. The rural town also has attractive offers for tourists and visitors.

Löwenhain

The place Löwenhain lies on a ridge, surrounded by a typical stone ridge landscape. The village reflects the character of an Eastern Ore Mountains village that has been strongly influenced by agriculture.

Oberbärenburg - state-recognized resort for recreation

They still exist, the quiet and relaxing places. A particularly quiet gem in a positive sense can be found about 5 km north-west of Altenberg - the state-approved recreational resort of Oberbärenburg.

Waldbärenburg

This district of the region Altenberg is traditionally very closely connected with Oberbärenburg. Both places differ significantly in their characteristics.  

Rehefeld-Zaunhaus

The mountain village of Rehefeld-Zaunhaus is located 700 to 800 meters above sea level in the headwaters of the Wilden Weißeritz, away from major roads, surrounded by rustling spruce and beech forests. The houses are scattered along the wide and open valley.

Schellerhau - State-approved recreational resort

This popular resort lies on the ridge of the Eastern Ore Mountains at 700–800 m altitude and is suitable for holidays in every time of the year.Summer hiking paradies or winter cross-country skiing wonderland, quiet location, a place for relaxation.

Waldidylle

Altenberg district Waldidylle is located in the Eastern Ore Mountains in about 720 meters above sea level and offers the tourists a pleasant mountain climate.

Zinnwald-Georgenfeld - State-approved recreational area

Zinnwald-Georgenfeld, at approx. 800-900 m above sea level, one of the highest places in the Ore Mountains. Discover and explore Zinnwald-Georgenfeld and its surroundings and experience the fascinating beauty by yourself.
